Node Visibility

DTace Tutorials > Tree Settings > Node Visibility

The Node Visibility page of the settings form is used control node hiding on the tree.  The Node Visibility page is shown below.

Nodes can be hidden in three ways.

  • Hide nodes that are not on the optimal path (if tree has already been rolled back).
  • Hide by selecting a base node.  Nodes that are not children of the base node will be hidden.
  • Hide by node level.  For more on node level refer to the tutorial on decision tree basics.

For this tutorial, we will start with a pre-made decision tree shown below.

Hide Nodes That Are Not Optimal

Select the "Hide nodes that are not optimal" button as shown below.

Click the Apply button.  The original tree above will now only show nodes on the optimal path.

Hide By Selecting Node

Select the "Hide by selecting node" button as shown below.  The hide by selecting node pane will activate.  We will select the Chance 2 node as the base node.

Click the Apply button.  Chance 2 and its child nodes will be the only nodes appearing on the tree.

Hide By Node Level

Hiding by node level can be done in two ways.  Nodes outside of a selected range can be hidden or nodes inside a selected range can be hidden.  We'll cover both cases next.

Hide Nodes Outside of Range

Select the "Hide by node level" button as shown below.  Then select "Hide nodes outside range" button.  The hide by node level pane will activate.  For this case, we will select node level 1 and node level 2 as the range to show (hiding node levels 0 and 3).

Click the Apply button.  The tree will now appear with only node level 1 and 2 showing.

Hide Nodes Inside of Range

Select the "Hide by node level" button as shown below.  Then select "Hide nodes inside range" button.  The hide by node level pane will activate.  For this case, we will select node level 1 and node level 2 as the range to hide (showing node levels 0 and 3).

Click the Apply button.  The tree will now appear with only node level 0 and 3 showing.

Unhiding Nodes

To show all nodes in the tree select the "Unhide all nodes" checkbox as shown below.  Then click the Apply button.
