In this tutorial we will look at four tools used to assist in the layout and appearance of DTace decision trees.

  • Align Text
  • Arrange Tree
  • Reroute
  • Refresh Text

Align Text

When a node is dragged to a new location, the align text tool is used to re-align the node's text boxes.  In the decision tree below, node End 2 has been dragged to a new location.  The text box containing its name is still in the old location.

To move the text box in line with the node, click the Align Text button on the ribbon.

The text box is now aligned with the node.

Arrange Tree

If auto arrange is turned on, and nodes are dragged to new locations, the arrange tree tool will arrange the tree according to the auto arrange settings.  For more information on auto arrange, refer to the tree layout tutorial.

In the following tree, the nodes have been moved around the spreadsheet manually.

To arrange with auto arrange, click the Arrange Tree button on the ribbon.

The tree is now arranged according to auto arrange settings.

Reroute

When connector routing is set to shortest path, and nodes are dragged to a new location, the connector paths may get distorted.  The reroute tool will reroute connectors to the shortest path.

In the tree below, nodes were moved manually.

We can shorten the connector path by clicking the Reroute button on the ribbon.

After reroute, the tree looks like this.

Refresh Text

The refresh text tool is used when node data is referenced to cells in a spreadsheet.  If the data in the spreadsheet cells change, the node text will not update until the refresh text tool is used.

In the decision tree below, the end node values are referenced to cells in the worksheet.

If we change End 4 and End 5 cell values to 103 and 97 respectively, the nodes still show the old values.

To update the node text to match the cell values, click the Refresh Text button on the ribbon.

The node text now matches the cell values.
